She had a dream ,
A dream that made her beam 😀
So big it might seem..
Her dream was to fly 🕊
And touch the sky ,
Dressed in bright white
And soar to height ,
Happy and light
Like a bird on flight ,
Brushing the cloud
Happy and proud ….
The day finally arrived
The day she had strived ,
That day she confessed
The dream she possessed..
Maa, I wanna be a pilot..
Oh ..Beta,my little star ,
I can’t send you so far,
For you are a girl ,
You know i love you..
Papa ,please lemme fly🦋
Beta don’t cry ,
We want the best for you ..
You’ll be an engineer ,
You know you’re so dear ,
Have no fear ,
You’ll make it this year..
Her heart that was filled with hope ,
Now struggled to cope.
Soon she was in a cranky room ,
Her days filled with gloom ,
Pushed into a fight ,
To prove who is bright .
The young butterfly ,
With dreams to fly ,
Was judged on her scores ,
On the mighty wars ,
That tested her arithmetics ,
Chemistry and physics ..
This weight was heavy ,
Too much for her little wings ,
Her wings were broken ,
& with broken wings & broken dreams
she became another butterfly ,
Who could not fly ….
She loved her parents ,
So did they ,
But they didn’t realize..
Love is not possesion
Love is freedom ….,.
The best gift for their little butterfly
Was roots of responsibility
And wings of freedom…
PS: I wrote this after reading about the deaths of 49 students in Navodaya Vidyalaya schools in the last five years, and of three students preparing for the IIT entrance examinations in Kota in a span of four days!!
Depression and suicidal thoughts are two of the most frightening things a person can face in their lifetime. Unfortunately, acting on those suicidal thoughts is a far too common scenario for many across the world, including students.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, between 2014 and 2016, 26,476 students committed suicide in India. Of them, 7,462 committed suicide due to failure in various examinations.
Sociologist Emile Durkheim had famously hypothesised that suicides are a result of not just psychological or emotional factors but social factors as well. With a loss of community and other social bonds, students in schools, colleges and coaching centres end up taking their lives.

Very well written dear 😊 It’s sad to read how much pressure young people face in terms of examination, studies, job etc. Parents, teachers and youngers too should understand their own capacities and talents and go for it rather than satisfy someone’s dream and sacrifice own life and happiness for it.

Those are such relevant lines in today’s times! Beautifully written 🙂
I wish people take note of the undue stress that young minds are put to in an effort to succeed in a field they are not even remotely interested in. If only the society is more receptive to the plethora of other attractive careers instead of only harping about a handful of glamorous ones, we’d avoid losing so many lives 😦
